Hoping to bring good cheer and health to 2021 with the Walthamstow Wassail.
This year will be a little different with the Wassail event online 3 til 4 pm. The craft this year is to create a Wassail drink with a twist , ready for the proceedings. Using your own apple carvings! Then we can Waes hael! in true style and sing our hearts delight.
Apple carving.
Wassail is made with a spiced mulled cider or non alcoholic version with apple juice with baked ( crab) apples. I have added a creative activity with apples carved into wassail singers/faces, the apples stew in the wassail drink. The apples will be studded with cloves for the added aroma and taste.
You will need:
Apples
Cloves
A knife
A chopping board
See the video below of how I carved the faces. There are apple choral faces that look fun stewing and bobbing in the wassail. Use your imagination to make faces drawing or decorating with the cloves.
Wassail Carved Apple Drink Ingredients:
Apple Cider (alcoholic Version) or Apple Juice (The Sober Variety)
Sorrel cordial drink ( optional )
3 Gala Apples
1 Large Orange
Cloves
Nutmeg
Ground Ginger (Spice will do!)
Cinnamon Sticks
STEP 1
Measure out by glass per person the cider/apple juice of choice into a pan.
Add to your taste the sorrel juice .
STEP 2
Slice the orange into rings and add them to the pan.
2 Cinnamon sticks. Optional: nutmeg and ground ginger,
Simmer slowly until apples are stewed.
STEP 3
